WHAT'S NEW - where to read about new features
UPGRADING GEDitCOM
Registered users of previous versions of GEDitCOM can upgrade to this new version for free.
If you previously used standard GEDitCOM Formats (in other words you did not create custom templates), you can upgrade by the following single step:
1. Run the new version, click on the Easy Upgrade button, and locate your previous version of GEDitCOM in the file-opening dialog box. GEDitCOM will automatically load your unlocking code, update your previous General preferences, and read in you Web menu favorites.
If you are using customized templates (in other words you have used the template editor to change some GEDitCOM templates) and you want to keep your changes, you should:
1. Run the old version and save your format (using the Save Format As... command).
2. Run the new version, click on the Easy Upgrade button, and locate your old version in the file-opening dialog box. GEDitCOM will automatically load your unlocking code, update your previous General preferences, and read in you Web menu favorites.
3. To use your customized templates, reload your custom format (using the Open Format command). You may want to try the new Default GEDitCOM Format to see its new features before reloading your customized templates.
WEB FAVORITES
If you are upgrading from a version older than 2.8, the upgrade process may load web favorites with the wrong web site and email contact for GEDitCOM. To keep your favorites current, you should update any links to GEDItCOM web pages or email to the pages on http://www.geditcom.com and email to mailto:support@geditcom.com.
WHAT'S NEW
You can read about what is new in this new version of GEDitCOM by opening the on-line help (Help command in the Customize menu) and clicking the "What's New" link listed under Chapter 1 in the help contents.
